Grado 7 Class Overview

 What you will learn: 

In 7th Grade Spanish students will continue to learn foundations of Spanish. Themes this year will consist of home life in the US and in Spanish speaking countries. Students will study the foods, culture and customs in Spanish speaking countries and compare them to how we eat here in this country and most importantly in our families.  In our shopping unit we identify and describe clothing and fashion in Spanish speaking countries and how it can influence our lives.

What you will need to be prepared for class**:

  • binder / la carpeta (or a section of your binder only for Spanish)
  • Notebook/ el cuaderno
  • Pencil / el lápiz
  • Eraser/ el borrador
  • Highlighter/ el resaltador
  • Work (handouts) / el trabajo
  • Agenda / la agenda
  • Name tag (will be provided to you) / el nombre (for the first month of class)

**You will keep ALL of your Spanish work in your binder or section of your binder and will be expected to bring it to class every day**

When absent:

**You are responsible to ask and look for missing work and/or materials when you are absent**

How you will be graded/assessed:

Students’ grades will be determined based on the completion of various activities and tasks according to the ACTFL performance guidelines and the three modes of communication; Interpretative, Interpersonal and Presentational. Homework will also be part of students’ grades.

InterpretativeListening, reading and viewing; includes test and quizzes (students are expected to understand and respond to basic directions and passages within context); Interpersonal Listening/speaking, reading/writing; includes daily oral participation (verbal and written communication is essential in language acquisition. As such, there will be daily activities in which students communicate with each other verbally, as well as in writing); Presentational Speaking and writing; includes role plays, and projects (students will complete and present projects, which may include speaking, reading and writing); Homework -As part of their HW, students will be expected to review vocabulary and key concepts every night (HW assignments will be given periodically and entered into PowerSchool).

How you can succeed in the Spanish class:

  • Ask for help if you need it.
  • Practice what we do in class at home, with friends, etc.
  • Come prepared, be on time and do your best!

Every day class procedures:

  • Walk in quietly
  • Read today’s objective
  • Copy HW
  • Take out HW
  • Do Now (First activity in your objective)

Rules and expectations:

  • Be on time or bring a late pass. No exceptions!! If you’re late without a pass, parents will be contacted and you will have detention.
  • Be prepared (binder, notebook, pencil, etc.), follow directions and ask questions.
  • Be an active participant, use Spanish as much as possible and practice good listening skills.
  • Raise your hand in order to participate and wait to be called.
  • Be kind and show respect for others including yourself and school property.
  • Have fun and work hard!

If you do not follow rules and expectations, expect the following:

  • Verbal warning
  • Detention, parent contact
  • Written report to the Principal or Assistant Principal and parent contact
